OUR congratulations go to the headmistress and staff of Rose Hill Primary School, Oxford. Without tongue in cheek, may I say how delighted I was to read such cheering words about educational endeavour in English language and literature, and Maths Key Stage Two at this Oxford primary.
As one who went to a state school, being not good enough for a ‘public’ school, I fear we’re in a mess of inaccurate terminology today when I read that the worst-performing schools would become ‘academies’ – hitherto an upgrade of ‘school’.
However, I take some comfort from the fact that my son, a product of Oxford School, apparently destined to become an ‘academy’ in future, did well enough to get a place at Oxford University.
So well done educational journalists, as well as Sue Mortimer and the staff of Rose Hill Primary, as well as the headteachers of the two schools “not available for comment”, whose results make them “subject to special investigation” – with the dire possibility of becoming ‘academies’.
