OXFORD City Council is clearly politically motivated in reacting so rapidly to threaten opponents of the St Clement’s car park redevelopment, after they displayed a temporary sign informing residents of the appalling plans (‘Protesters told to drop St Clement’s poster’, last Tuesday’s Oxford Mail).
I am certain that if the sign were part of a campaign closer to the hearts of the Labour city administration then they would be a lot more relaxed about such a modest, temporary banner.
It is remarkable that protesters are having the book thrown at them over this minor breach of planning regulations, while the St Clement’s car park developers are being seemingly allowed to flout several major planning policies.
By acting in this way, the Labour administration is not only ignoring local residents and traders but actively seeking to stifle dissenting voices.
