A 45-year-old man is in police custody on suspicion of armed robbery following a raid in Watlington.

Shortly after 2pm on Thursday<<Jan6>> a man walked into Barclays Bank in High Street carrying a sawn-off shotgun.

After threatening a female cashier, he demanded the money be put in a black record-style bag before fleeing in a white Transit van.

The vehicle was later found burnt out near St Leonard’s Church hall car park, where police believe the robber transferred to a motorcycle.

Police spokesman Rebecca Webber said a 45-year-old man was arrested on Friday afternoon in connection with the robbery and is in custody.
