CHILDREN at a Bicester school got a taste of a pop star’s life when they spent a day in a recording studio.

All 360 pupils at Southwold Primary School, in Holm Square, Bicester, let their voice be heard when they recorded a CD full of Christmas tunes.

And the young singers aged three to 11-years-old proved to have the X-Factor.

The aim was to produce a record to raise money for the Friends of Southwold School.

The 14-track album includes Little Donkey sung by the nursery children, Jingle Bells performed by the school orchestra, and Starry Night.

Children also took part in a competition to design a label for the CD and a cover, which were won by And it was not the first time the pupils dabbled in music to make a CD, after recording Southwold Songs for the school two years ago.

Emily Holloway, acting deputy head teacher, said: “All the children from foundation stage to Year Six all had a part to play in the CD. It was very much a project that involved the whole school and a way to celebrate Christmas and music.

“We have got some very talented children.

“The children in the foundation year were in absolute awe when the mobile recording studio rolled into school.

“Instead of Little Donkey we thought we were going to have silent donkey!”

On Thursday local people will be able to catch the children in a live performance when they will sing carols on the school quad from 6pm.

CDs cost £5 and all proceeds will go to Friends of Southwold School. They have not set a target or decided where the money will be spent.
