THE organs of 65 dead Sellafield nuclear workers taken without the consent of their families were sent to a Harwell laboratory for analysis, a three-year inquiry confirmed today.

Two Harwell workers also had organs removed after their death and the report, by barrister Michael Redfern, said this was done lawfully and openly.

Energy Minister Chris Huhne said the removals “should never have happened in the first place” and apologised.

The United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority said the testing was for the public good and was “ethical as well as legal”.
