NEWSREADER Sir Trevor McDonald and actor Tom Hollander are to appear at an Oxford concert in aid of Helen & Douglas House hospice.

They will provide readings at the musical event at University Church of St Mary the Virgin in High Street on Saturday, November 27 at 7.30pm.

The Light Up A Life event will also feature the Oxford Welsh Male Voice Choir, Radley College Chamber Choir and the Manor School Choir.

Those who have lost loved ones will be invited to hang “remembrance tags” on Christmas trees in the church.

Charity founder Sister Frances Dominica will lead a moment of reflection for lost loved ones.

The Magdelen Road charity provides hospice care for terminally ill people up to the age of 35.

Sir Trevor said: “I’m very pleased to be involved with the concert. Not only is it a wonderful evening of music and reflection, it is for a charity I admire immensely.”

Mr Hollander grew up in North Oxford and went to Abingdon School. He is known for film and TV roles including In The Loop and the Pirates of the Caribbean series.

Spokeswoman Mary Boullin said: “We hope that anyone who enjoys beautiful music and who might like to celebrate the life of someone they have loved will join us for what promises to be a very special evening.

“Some families who have stayed at Helen & Douglas House will be there and we hope everyone will have a memorable, uplifting and most importantly, enjoyable time.”

Helen House was the world’s first children’s hospice when it opened in 1982 and Douglas House was the world’s first for young adults when it opened in 2004, caring for 300 young people from Oxfordshire and surrounding counties and about 60 bereaved families.

Eighty per cent of the running costs are ment from donations and the charity organises fundraising events throughout the year.

The charity also runs a number of charity shops.

Tickets are £12 and £6 for under 16s. Remembrance tags are available in advance.
