DEPUTY Prime Minister Nick Clegg has pulled out of a visit to Oxford next week.

Mr Clegg had been due to visit the Oxford Union for a debate with university Students next Thursday.

A statement from the Cabinet Office said Mr Clegg was unable to visit Oxford “due to an unfortunate clash of diary commitments”.

The decision comes just two weeks after fellow Liberal Democrat and Business Secretary Vince Cable also cancelled a trip to the university, which would have coincided with a student protest against tuition fees.

A spokesman for Mr Clegg said: “An unfortunate clash of diary commitments has meant that Mr Clegg has unfortunately had to cancel his visit to Oxford.

“Mr Clegg is always very keen to engage with students, however, and last week invited students to meet him and talk about issues, including a senior figure from Oxford’s National Union of Students.”
