FAMOUS faces from the world of children’s books will discuss the tricks of their trade in Oxford today.
Philip Pullman, Mary Hoffman, and illustrators Layn Marlow and Sarah McIntyre are among those who will be attending a conference on children’s literature.
The event has been organised by the Oxford Children’s Book Group.
Chairman Moira Da Costa said: “It’s the biggest event in our calendar, allowing us to discuss how to encourage children to read more.”
The group, entirely run by volunteers, arranges creative writing sessions and book swaps for all ages.
But the event on Saturday is strictly for adults, and is expected to attract an audience of teachers, librarians, writers and parents.
Mr Pullman, author of popular fantasy series His Dark Materials said: “I’ll be there to talk about stories and narrative in general. It’s an important subject and those professionals involved in the matter, from teachers and librarians, to writers and publishers, should all get together every so often to talk about it.”
Speakers also include Bill Laar, a visiting fellow at Oxford Brookes University.
The event is at the Oxford University Press building in Great Clarendon Street.
