THE funeral of a pub landlady who died on her tropical honeymoon will take place next week.

Sharon Duval, who ran the Highwayman Hotel in Kidlington, was found on a beach in the Maldives.

The 42-year-old had been celebrating a belated honeymoon with husband Nick. Her body was found on October 2.

She was mother to 16-year-old Johnathan and had married Mr Duval in September 2009.

Friends and family will gather at St Mary’s Church in Kidlington on Tuesday to celebrate her life.

Last night Mr Duval called his late wife “a sincere and wonderful mother”, who would often be seen supporting Johnathan playing football “in all weather”. He said: “Sharon, who had lived in Kidlington all her life, was well known in the village as a happy and fun loving person who loved life and cherished her close friends and family.”

Mrs Duval had worked for Thames Valley Police for 14 years before taking over The Wise Alderman, in Banbury Road, which was later renamed The Highwayman.

She was awarded a civilian commendation in 2008 for her work as a personal secretary within the force’s criminal justice department.

The Oxford United season ticket holder was also a keen runner and regularly took part in Oxford’s Race For Life.

Mr Duval said: “Sharon turned around the pub virtually single-handed, creating a vibrant and friendly atmosphere for her customers, which was well received by all – the business took off virtually overnight.

“Her attention to detail and high standards continued to bring in customers from near and far as the hotel business soon reached its maximum potential.”

A post-mortem examination into her death proved inconclusive, but she is believed to have drowned.

It is not known when the inquest will be held.

Her memorial service starts at midday on Tuesday.

It will be followed by a private burial service and reception at The Highwayman from 1pm onwards.

Flowers, or donations to the Cancer Research UK, can be arranged via the funeral directors S&R Childs, The Parade, Oxford Road, Kidlington.

A book of condolence is available for people to sign at The Highwayman.
