A NEW village hall could be built in Enstone, near Chipping Norton, as part of a housing project.
Satnam Investments wants to build 26 homes, 10 of which would be affordable housing, and help pay for a new village hall. Enstone Parish Council has backed the plan, but some residents are concerned about extra traffic and possible flooding risks.
Satnam submitted a planning application to West Oxfordshire District Council in September but later withdrew it.
Director Colin Griffiths said: “We have withdrawn the application but we have not walked away from the scheme. We really feel this is a unique opportunity to bring forward a lot of advantages for the village.
“It’s extremely exciting and we’re looking forward to working with all the village in order to bring it forward.”
A parish council spokesman said: “We could do with more affordable housing and we need a new village hall.
“We need a focal point in the village for people to come together.”
The firm would provide the land for the hall and match public sector funding up to £200,000.
However, resident Graham Speke said: “In times of acute financial need, and with the running costs, we cannot see how it is going to be managed and run in a viable way.”
