EX-councillor Bill Buckingham criticises Peter Wilkinson, chairman of the tenants and residents’ association, for not praising the city council for the new housing development at Lambourn Road, Rose Hill (Oxford Mail, October 19).

If he attended the monthly meetings of the tenants and residents’ association, he would have realised that the criticisms raised were a sincere reflection of members’ views.

Contractually, I find no fault in the workmanship that Lovell’s the builders have executed but it cannot hide some serious design faults and ignorance of established planning principles and laws.

The harassment of an elderly lady, who had every right to live in her property, is something the council should be ashamed of and deserves no praise, unless one believes in the adage the end justifies the means.

I am sure that as an ex-councillor and magistrate, Mr Buckingham believes that we must all live by the rules.

Can he explain to me why conditions applied to planning permissions are never carried out in Rose Hill? For example: l A footpath connecting Rivermead Road to Churchway Iffley via Courtplace Gardens.

l A footpath between Court Farm Road and the car park and garage area.

The loss of the car park and garage area to housing has had a disastrous effect on Rivermead Road. Due to the number of cars and vans parked in the road, buses to Cowley couldn’t get through. The inevitable happened – the bus route was changed.

Having lived for so long with boarded-up houses around him, I think Bill Buckingham is mesmerised by the building works that surround him.
