Sir – Councillor Tanner (Letters, October 28) is unjustifiably smug about the Oxford recycling programme when he writes that it has “....gone remarkably well so far”.
If the Botley Road near the railway bridge, or South Street on Osney Island, are exemplars, then Oxford is itself in danger of becoming a green and blue plastic rubbish tip; hardly the environmental triumph claimed by the councillor.
These offending wheelie bins should themselves be recycled into the green and blue boxes that we have used happily for several years.
If people need more boxes than one for their recycling, then so be it. Many, I suspect, will not.
The Oxford environment which we love is under threat from this impractical and misguided imposition.
Peter Newell, Oxford
