Q.What vehicle do you drive?

A. 1972 VW Beetle.

Q. How long have you had it?

A. Five years Q. How much did it cost?

A. £1,000 Q. What work have you done to the vehicle? How much has it cost to repair?

A. We have been undertaking the major restoration over the last four years and the little bug finally received its MOT last week and its first road trip was to a local VW meet in Witney at the weekend. The engine has been rebuilt and the interior has been completely custom built, by Steve Lemasurier of Oxford Car Audio with the help of the rest of the team. To cost this project may be hard because of the many, many man hours that have been involved on building it, but it is well in excess of £15,000.

Q. What kind of sound system has it got? How much did that cost? How does it sound?

A. The vehicle has a full J L Audio system comprising from 6 x 13”

subwoofers, running from 3 x 1000 watt amplifiers and 2x J L Audio front speakers running from another amplifier, three huge batteries to power the system and a second alternator to help generate the power required. Plans to add more speakers into the doors are in progress to make it even louder. The current official decibel reading is at 150.1db, but we do aim to improve on that over the next couple of months. Yes, it is very, very loud but also very high quality of sound when playing normal types of music. The system would cost in excess of £,3000 to replicate.

Q. Why did you get this particular vehicle?

A. We’ve always been in to the VW scene, and it was something classic and different to do instead of just the same old modern cars you see on the road today.

Q. What do you like most about it?

A. Personally I love the super wide rear wheels and the look of it as it has no rear windows.

Q. What irritates you most about it?

A. It’s quite slow due to the amount of equipment in it.

Q. Is it good value for money?

A. No, not at all, but it makes everyone smile and that’s worth the cost for me.

Q. Does it have a name?

A. Oh yes, it’s known as The Awesome Dub Beats Beetle.

Q. What is your favourite memory of the vehicle?

A. Finally getting the MOT certificate last week and being able to drive it on the road. Whoop whoop.

Q. And your worst?

A. Many, many late nights for all involved. And thanks to the partners for their understanding (you know who you are).

Q. If you could own any vehicle what would it be?

A. A VW split screen camper.

Q. What was your first car? How much did it cost?

A. A Vauxhall Cavalier estate. I bought it in 1986. It cost £500.
