AS a public servant of 30 years’ standing, I have to say that the arrogant tosh proffered by John J Monaghan (Oxford Mail ViewPoints, October 22) and his ilk really irritates me.

I am sure he may have carried out plenty of very effective and useful community work and public service over many years – but in this case his very negative diatribe against a hard-working public servant does him no justice whatever.

I feel very strongly that making an elitist attack upon people who are doing their very best is the lowest form of newspaper correspondence and I would love for there to be a rule that people could not populate your pages with such matter unless they had a positive suggestion to put forward upon the issue!

Yes, there are people who have expertise in the discipline that Pcso Natalie Thrussell is dealing with but she is the person on the ground and her opinion is entirely valid.

Perhaps Mr Monaghan’s criticism should be levelled at the journalist who may not have spoken to the right person, rather than at a public servant whose only fault is that of trying too hard to deal effectively with issues quite properly within their remit.
