Sir – We were pleased to see the article about Anita Daulne’s approach to group singing (Report, October 21). Thanks partly to TV popularisation, choral singing is becoming ever more in vogue.
And as not everyone can (or wishes to) read music, teaching by ear is increasingly common. Anita has certainly brought something special to Oxford, drawing on her richly diverse background to form the Afropean Choir.
However, as the article mentions, Anita’s choir has a long waiting list, readers may be interested to know that there are a number of other choirs in Oxford who have a similar approach of learning harmony songs by ear, drawing on a range of ethnic and cultural traditions, and acknowledging that you use your whole body when singing!
Singing as part of a group is a great feel-good activity which can be enjoyed by anyone. Our groups are all open to new members; people are welcome to come along any week to a session and give it a try.
