Have fun singing your heart out, or making personalised cards online — all for a good cause.

The Christmas season is all about spreading goodwill, so why not give a little more this year and reap the rewards? There are lots of ways to help those that need it most, from singing your heart out at a charity carol service to organising a fundraising Christmas party. You can even embrace new technology and ditch the stamps by sending charity Christmas e-cards!

GET INTO THE SPIRIT OF THINGS

Tuesday, December 7, sees the return of the magical Spirit of Christmas Concert in Oxford's Christ Church Cathedral, in aid of the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign.

The stunning surroundings make it the perfect place for an evening of candlelit carols. With last year’s concerts attracting well-known faces from stage and screen, it looks set to be another starry night.

The evening, in association with The Oxford Times, will feature the Dragon School Choir, back again to raise their voices after last year’s wonderful performance.

Tickets range from £10 to £40, with the VIP tickets including a post-concert reception with festive nibbles, and the chance to meet the special guests.

To buy tickets, or to find out more, call 020 7803 4828 or e-mail oxford@muscular-dystrophy.org

PUT CHARITABLE GIFTS ON YOUR LIST

Why not treat your friends and family to some wonderful festive gifts which will not only put a smile on their faces, but also those of the thousands of babies, children and adults who are diagnosed with muscle disease?

The Muscular Dystrophy Campaign has launched a brand new Christmas catalogue, full to the brim with brilliant gift ideas, including pouches of Reindeer Food to guide Father Christmas to your door, and some attractive and reasonably-priced Christmas cards and calendars.

To order a catalogue call 01736 333 312, or to see the other goodies in the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign’s Christmas catalogue, visit www.muscular-dystrophy.org/christmas

If you find you never have enough stamps at Christmas then why not send an e-card instead? Choose from one of the charity’s pre-drawn cards, or create your own, simply by visiting the e-card shop.

For £1, the sender follows simple step-by-step instructions to make the card, which the receiver can then see magically animated —exactly in the order it was created.

All money raised goes to the help people with muscle-wasting conditions. Visit www.muscular-dystrophy.org/ecards

COME DINE WITH US

What better excuse for a Christmas party than to raise money for charity at the same time? TV’s Something for the Weekend chef, Simon Rimmer, is encouraging people across the UK to get cooking and raise some cash at the same time.

In return, the TV star and restauranteur is judging an online competition to find the best-looking dish in the region. Prizes for the best visual feast include meals for two at restaurants across the UK, a Christmas food hamper courtesy of Park Foods, tickets to top attractions, including the Tower of London, and a selection of celebrity cookbooks.
