Police warned drivers not to leave cars unattended while they are de-icing, after a car was stolen in Oxford today.

At about 7.30am, a grey Vauxhall Astra estate was stolen from outside an address in Lobelia Road, Blackbird Leys.

Det Sgt Laura Auger, of Oxford’s auto-crime team, said: “I would like to remind people that now the cold weather has arrived not to leave your car unattended while you wait for it to de-ice.

“I know it can be tempting to go inside and wait in the warm but it only takes a second for an opportunist thief to get in the car and drive off.

“I appeal to anyone who was in this area of Blackbird Leys this morning and saw somebody making off in a grey Vauxhall Astra to contact police immediately.”

Anyone with information that could assist police enquiries is urged to contact Det Sgt Auger via the Thames Valley Police Enquiry Centre on 0845 8 505 505. If you don’t want to speak to police and don’t want to leave your name contact the Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.
