I am writing about your Worst Car Evah (Oxford Mail, October 15) on the Dodge Avenger.
Yes, the Avenger name was unsullied in the United States, but only because when the Hillman Avenger was sold there, it was called the Plymouth Cricket.
So perhaps the Americans were getting their own back on us.
The Americans also had the Hillman Hunter but over the pond it was known as the Sunbeam Arrow. For the most diabolical contraption ever to grace our roads, might I suggest the Fairthorpe Atom and Atomota, ‘a devilish device’ with a 250cc BSA motorbike engine amidships.
These hideous machines were launched on an unsuspecting car-hungry population in the mid 1950s.
