MORE than 600 people packed out a pirate-themed music concert at Oxford Town Hall on Sunday.
Children dressed as pirates, sang along and danced as Oxford’s Philamusica orchestra wowed the crowds with water-themed songs and music from the Pirates of the Caribbean.
The children created the costumes at workshops held before the concert where they also got a closer look at the musical instruments.
Children were told stories about the pirates of Scotland, who hid their treasure in Fingal’s Cave, a sea cave on the uninhabited island of Staffa, in the Inner Hebrides of Scotland.
Concert-goers were also taught The Sailor’s Hornpipe, also known as The College Hornpipe and Jack’s the Lad, a traditional hornpipe melody.
Sea-farers were taught the jig, which imitates the life of a sailor and their duties aboard ship, as an exercise aboard the wet deck of a ship, in bare feet.
Philamusica spokesman Julie Peacock said: “It was fantastic. The concert got a great response and everyone said how much they enjoyed it, particularly the children.”
