A 21-YEAR-old beat a pizza delivery man in a racist attack within 48 hours of being released from a young offenders’ institution.

Craig Pitts, 21, attacked Hakkani Nergiz, 30, in Abingdon with Luke Jarvis, Daniel Rumley and Alistair Aitken during a drinking binge celebrating his release.

He was imprisoned for three-and-a-half years by Reading Crown Court on Friday.

The court heard the four had been drinking most of the previous day, April 1, and the whole of the next day when Mr Nergiz arrived at Preston Road.

One asked Mr Nergiz, of Sami’s Barbecue and Takeaway, for some pizza and he was then racially abused and attacked. They have 72 previous convictions between them.

Excluding Rumley, Judge Bruce McIntyre told them: “There is no apparent end in sight to the cycles into which you seem to be locked, of boredom, drink, trouble and prison.”

Pitts was sentenced for racially aggravated assault occasioning actual bodily harm, breaching an antisocial behaviour order and common assault against two of his friends.

He was also sentenced for assaulting a guard at the YOI in Rochester, Kent, where he was imprisoned on an affray charge. The centres are for those aged 18 to 20.
