A GRANDFATHER and his son are to paraglide over the Himalayas to help a charity for injured servicemen and women.

Ron Mutton, 66, from Boars Hill, near Oxford, and his son Adrian, 35, will make the trip next month. in aid of Help for Heroes.

Mr Mutton, who runs a plumbing and heating firm, said he had got the idea when reading a newspaper.

He said: “I saw pictures of some guys paragliding over the mountains and just thought it looked fantastic.

“This is a once-in-a-lifetime trip and we're really excited.”

Mr Mutton will fly out to India, where his son and two grandchildren live, on October 27.

They will then embark on the three-day expedition together on November 4.

Their trip will take them over the mountains in the north of the country, at 5,000ft up in the air.

Each flight will last from two to three hours.

Mr Mutton said: “We will be passing over some of the world’s wildest terrain, and will be flying with eagles and griffin vultures.

“Hopefully, we’ll be able to spot remote shepherd’s camps, villages and temples dotted around the mountains.”

It is not the first time the two have been involved in extreme sport. Mr Mutton said: “We have both done parachute jumps for charity before.

“Then, while skiing last year, I hitched a lift with a paraglider and flew down the mountain.”

His son has been living in India in the past three years.

He is a fan of heli-skiing – jumping out of a helicopter to ski down a mountain.

The pair plan to raise as much money as possible, and have already collected about £300.

Mr Mutton said: “We have no limits on how much we are planning to raise – we just want as much as possible.

“We have previously raised money for disaster relief after the Asian tsunami – and managed to pay for a whole house and furniture for a family. We’d like to do just as well this time.”
