PUPILS at Wood Farm School got the unique chance to get creative with furniture this week.
About 85 children from years four and five were visited by staff and students from Rycotewood Furniture Centre.
Year four teacher Natasha Vincent said: “It was part of our ongoing One Oak Project.
“Last year the kids went to Blenheim Palace to see an old oak tree being felled.
“They are now designing furniture that will be made from the wood and will then get to see it made.
“Then some time next year, we will all go and plant new oak trees where the last one was felled.
“It is educating them about the environment and the sustainability of resources.”
On Wednesday, pupils created a ‘forest of ideas’ where they filled pictures of trees with all of their favourite ideas.
The ideas will then be turned into real plans later this year.
Miss Vincent said: “The pupils are absolutely loving it and they love outdoor learning.
“Many of our children don’t get the chance to be outside as much as we’d like, so this kind of project gives them that chance.”
