ThousandS of Oxfordshire residents have been kept awake and deprived of sleep.

A Cassington Farewell to the Field rave, licensed by Thames Valley Police (who knew about, yet didn’t mitigate the din) and West Oxfordshire District Council, kept thousands of good local people – including me in Jericho – sore-eyed and exhausted, with its unrelenting, torturing, pitiless ‘thump, thump, thump’ cacophony of bass – all night long.

Apparently, this event was listed online, but I couldn't find it.

Its licence expired at 6am on Sunday, when the insane din finally stopped. Oxfordshire’s citizens, livestock, and wildlife then breathed a collective sigh of relief – and maybe a few even managed to get some overdue shut-eye.

Who, in their right mind, would license this intolerable noise, all night? Heads should roll.

Did these reckless folk intend to court a risk of counter-nuisance, vigilante action, or even the throwing of Molotov cocktails against the sound system – or whoever allowed it?

I hope not.

I have learned that complaints were received during the night, and more may follow.

It is for the media to elicit how many, as they continue to cover this story of officially-sanctioned noise nuisance.

For each complaint received, maybe another hundred souls did not trouble to contact authorities, or seek relief.

If others endured this, I’d be interested to hear about it.

This public nuisance and breach of the peace was annoying beyond description, and should never be permitted anywhere near a populated area again.
