Parts of a seven-bedroom period manor house near Abingdon are believed to date back to 1620.

Park End in Radley, which is on the market for £2m, was extended in the early 1800s and includes sash windows and a number of other features such as quarry tiled floors, open fireplaces and beamed ceilings.

Spread over three floors, the 17th-century sections are white and blue with a clay-tiled roof, while the Georgian additions are red brick with a slate topping.

The ground-floor layout includes a 20ft x 14ft drawing room and a sitting room, both with open fireplaces. There is also a separate dining room, a study and a country-house style kitchen/breakfast room with an Aga plus a workshop, snug, downstairs cloakroom, laundry room and wine store.

A games room measuring 36ft x 14ft was created from a former barn and has exposed beams and a vaulted ceiling.

There is also a gallery and a staff/guest apartment with its own separate entrance and a kitchen, bedroom and bathroom.

On the first floor of the main house are five bedrooms and three bathrooms. The master bedroom has a large split-level ensuite while on the second floor there are another two bedrooms and an attic store room.

There are two driveways at the front of the property including one that leads to a parking and turning area in front of the house plus a lawn and ornamental pond with a water feature. The grounds include two orchards with apple, plum, pear and cherry trees and a cobbled terrace with seating areas and walkways plus a paddock.

A stable yard, three loose boxes and a tack room are at the back of the house plus a Grade II-listed tythe barn.

There are also two former barns that have been converted into 3,600 sq ft of office space. Agents say there is potential to convert a third period single-storey barn and that these buildings may be available through separate negotiation.

Damian Gray, of agents Knight Frank, said: “It is extraordinary to find that much land and a house of this size so close to the centre of Oxford.

“The other main incentive is that there are two converted barns adjacent to the grounds that could also be bought to provide the owner with additional income stream.

“The house and the grounds, which amount to around 2.5 acres, are extremely attractive and full of character. The current owners, who have lived there for a long time, are moving to the Cotswolds.”
