TOP Gear presenter Jeremy Clarkson is the first non-fiction author to make the top 10 list of writers whose books are most frequently donated to Oxfam.

Books by the controversial presenter, who lives near Chipping Norton, include Motorworld, Driven to Distraction and The World According to Clarkson series.

Oxfam is Europe’s biggest high street retailer of second-hand books, and the third-biggest bookseller in the UK.

The Cowley-based charity has 134 specialist bookshops, including those in St Giles, Oxford, and Thame.

Dan Brown, the American novelist who wrote The Da Vinci Code, remains the most donated author at Oxfam shops across the country for the second year running.

Scottish crime writer Ian Rankin topped the Cowley-based charity’s bestseller list for the second year running but Stieg Larsson, the author of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, is a new entry in second place.

Other bestsellers include JK Rowling and Twilight author Stephenie Meyer, indicating Hollywood’s strong influence on the book-buying public.

David McCullough, Oxfam’s trading director, said: “The survey illustrates the number of current titles available in Oxfam shops, sitting alongside collector’s items and classic volumes.

“I’d like to say a big thank-you to all the people who generously donate their books to Oxfam, and to encourage everyone to think of us when they are clearing out their bookshelves.”
