PEOPLE in Witney and west Oxfordshire say they can’t wait to meet David and Samantha Cameron’s baby daughter after getting a first glimpse of the new arrival.

Pictures of Florence Rose Endellion Cameron were released on Saturday and showed her being cradled by a doting Prime Minister.

Mrs Cameron and the baby, both said to be doing well, left hospital on Friday and the family are continuing their holiday in Cornwall.

Last night, residents in Mr Cameron’s Witney constituency congratulated the couple.

Janet Curshaw, 53, from Thorney Leys, in Witney, said it was “wonderful” to see the couple’s baby.

She said: “We have had Mr Cameron as our MP for a long time now and I’m quite fond of him – he has done a good job.

“The couple are part of the community here and it’s wonderful to get to see the pictures of little Florence. She’s beautiful.

“It’s especially touching because of the sad death of their little boy (Ivan) last year. He can never be replaced, but this new baby will bring them a lot of happiness. I hope the Camerons bring her to Witney soon.”

Mother-of-two Lisa Jones, 31, from Raleigh Crescent, said a new baby was the of the most exciting things for a family.

She said: “Having my two boys was the best thing I have ever done and I expect the Camerons are filled with the same happiness.

“Hopefully Florence will bring them a lot of happiness and I’m sure we’ll see her around the town soon.”

Conservative councillor Roger Curry, who represents Witney East ward on West Oxfordshire District Council, said: “We’re all very happy for David and Samantha and are looking forward to having the chance to meet the new baby at some stage.

“I think most people in Witney have a tremendous regard for David, whether or not they vote Conservative, and will be wishing the whole family well at this time.”

Florence, born weighing 6lb 1oz, was due next month, but caught the family by surprise while they were on holiday.

Speaking outside the hospital on Tuesday, Mr Cameron described her as an “unbelievably beautiful girl”.

Her middle name, Endellion, comes from the village of St Endellion on the north Cornish coast, close to where the Camerons were staying.

Mr Cameron had been expected to return to work after the bank holiday weekend, but he is now thought to be planning some extra time off as paternity leave.

The Camerons suffered tragedy last year when Ivan, who had cerebral palsy and severe epilepsy, died aged six.

Their other children are Nancy, six, and four-year-old Arthur.
