THE sight of overflowing bins is all too common on the streets of Oxfordshire and, at the Oxford Retail Park in Cowley, it’s no exception.
The bins at the entrance to the park are all too often left strewn with waste.
While it is a positive sign to see so many people wanting to use the facilities, something really needs to be done about the mess. It’s a blight on the city.
We urge Tesco and Oxford City Council to get their heads together and sort out the problem.
Whether it’s a case of moving the bins to a better location or providing more bins, it’s not rocket science.
In turn, the people who are dumping their rubbish should think more about the impact their actions have on the environment.
In one sense it’s difficult to blame people for leaving their rubbish at the side when the bins are fill.
They don’t want the hassle of taking it home again if the bins are full, or finding somewhere else to leave it.
But in terms of the visual impact on the community, their actions are a form of flytipping – something the council spends hundreds of thousands of pounds on tackling.
