The recent warm weather has boosted the popularity of rental properties with attractive gardens, according to leading agents.

Tanya Blake, of Savills, said: “Outdoor space is definitely a key factor at this time of year. The prettier the garden is, the more desirable the home, especially for families.”

An example is Ash Tree Cottage, a five-bedroom property in Maidensgrove, near Henley, with a substantial garden, much of it laid to lawn.

Ms Blake added: “There is a charming open-plan kitchen/ breakfast room with doors leading to the garden and the family room and living room also have doors to the garden.

“It is rare to find a lettings property with such a substantial garden — this even has a pond and the garden is maintained, so tenants can relax outside without having to lift a finger.”

Ash Tree Cottage is available at £3,950 per month from August 25, unfurnished. For more information, contact Savills on 01491 843000.

Another house with a garden geared towards relaxation is The Old School House in Church Westcote, near Chipping Norton. The detached stone cottage has four bedrooms, period features and a large garden with a play area and is available from John D Wood at £2,000 per month.

Jackie Smith, of John D Wood, said: “The house has a lovely garden, ideal for children to play in. We find that, during the summer particularly, we have numerous families contacting us wanting to move out to the country to take advantage of the long school holidays. It is so much easier to entertain children in the country than in a town.”

Blake Mead, a four-bedroom detached house in Dorchester that offers large landscaped gardens with a sun dial and a well, is available through Carter Jonas at £2,400 per month.

Christopher Way, of Carter Jonas, said: “In most country houses the garden is as important as the house in creating the right environment for a rural lifestyle, especially when the setting is particularly idyllic.

“This property has a very large garden that is beautifully laid out with sloping lawns, mature shrubberies and interesting features.

“The house itself matches the garden in terms of presentation, with an immaculate interior packed with period charm. It is also located in what must be one of Oxfordshire’s prettiest villages.”
