“I COULDN’T love anyone more than I loved him – he was the best son in the world.”

Those were the words of Odette Godfrey, the mother of 28-year-old Mathew Godfrey, who was killed in a crash on the A41 Bicester Road at Ludgershall, near Bicester.

Mr Godfrey, of Hailey Avenue, Chipping Norton, was one of three people killed in the July 18 accident.

Last night, Mrs Godfrey and her husband Chris said no one would ever know how proud her son made her.

Mr Godfrey was born in Devon before the family moved to Chipping Norton when he was a boy. He had two children, Liam and Ellie, with his former partner Toni.

He went to school in Chipping Norton, going on to work for Woodstock firm Owen Mumford.

Mrs Godfrey said: “He made me so proud, working his way up and becoming highly respected.”

Mr Godfrey had been with his current partner Marta for four years.

“They were best friends.”

Mrs Godfrey added: “I couldn’t love anyone more than I loved him – not only was he the best son in the world, he was my best friend, the ray of sunshine, my life.”

The collision involved a silver Toyota Corolla and a red Hyundai coupe being driven by Mr Godfrey. The driver of the Toyota, a 79-year-old man, and his front-seat passenger, a 75-year-old woman, both from Brackley, also died at the scene.

Police are appealing for any witnesses to call 08458 505505.
