I CANNOT believe what I read in Hugh Jaeger’s letter (Oxford Mail ViewPoints, July 21).

He thinks the road and pavement fiasco in Headington was well planned.

Not surprising, as he is anti-car, just like our two councils. Everyone I speak to says what a mess they have made of it.

I don’t think cars were getting in the middle of the road to turn right, or holding up traffic.

The main cause is too many traffic lights between Headington Hill and central Headington and far too many buses going throughthe area.

The pelican crossing they put in in place of the underpass is changing to red for traffic every few seconds.

I went through Headington last Thursday, July 22, to get to Wheatley.

It took me three-quarters-of-an-hour to get to Headington roundabout from Gypsy Lane.

If this is the way forward, let’s go backwards.

Another big hold-up is that every time a bus stops at a bus stop, all the traffic has to stop.

In most cases there is room to put a lane in for buses.

My alternative, Mr Jaeger, terminate the London buses at Thornhill park-and-ride site.
