A PRIEST pushed a 50-tonne train to raise money for his church.
Cheered on by his congregation, Fr Edward Carter single-handedly moved the Great Western Railway pannier tank locomotive one-and-a-half times around the turntable at Didcot Railway Centre on Sunday, right.
Fr Carter said the event had raised hundreds of pounds for St Peter’s Church.
He said: “Everything went very well.
“I was a bit nervous at first, but as soon as I got a bit of momentum going, the train started to move. It was very satisfying.”
Later Fr Carter joined the driver for a short trip along the centre’s demonstration line.
The church has a long association with the railway, having been originally built using money from shareholders of the Great Western Railway.
