WELSH voices raised the Oxford Town Hall roof at a special charity concert, and raised £4,000 for two worthwhile causes in the process.
The world-renowned Morriston Orpheus Choir, from Swansea, headlined the event to benefit Help for Heroes and the Oxford branch of the charity Cruse Bereavement Care.
The £4,000 raised – through ticket sales and donations on the night – will be split equally between the two charities.
The choir were joined at the fundraising event by international opera stars Rebecca Evans and Adriano Graziani.
Oxford grandfather Nigel Jones organised the concert on July 10, after he was moved by the emotional stories of returning soldiers.
Mr Jones presented the money raised to the charities this week.
Mr Jones, 63, from Boars Hill, said: “We had a brilliant turn-out and everyone was superb. The audience were really responsive to the Morriston Orpheus Choir, and they were outstanding.
“They exceeded everyone’s expectations.”
Soldiers from the Royal Logistics Corps, based at Dalton Barracks in Abingdon, helped collect donations on the night.
Mr Jones said he wanted to stage a similar event next year.
