RESIDENTS in a Banbury street proved community spirit was alive and well.
More than 200 people living in the Queens Road area of the town gathered for a traditional street party.
Bunting and balloons were hung across the neighbourhood and residents brought along food for a ‘Big Lunch’.
Local band Transmission and singer Kerry Binns performed and children enjoyed a host of activities including junk modelling, face-painting and a bouncy castle.
Youngsters also donned fancy dress for the event and there were prizes for the best decorated house, which was won by Roger Saint and Sue Price who used a Mexican theme, and the best cake prize went to Sarah Parkin.
Organiser Tim Tarby-Donald said: “After last year’s successful street party I was disappointed in February this year when no one was interested, but by April I was overwhelmed with the enthusiasm and support which has lasted up until 6pm today.”
