Simpler solution Sir – We have now received our instructions on the new waste disposal system. We will each receive a bin for recycled waste, a bin for other waste and a canister for food waste.

We will also receive a list and instructions on what to put where and when it will be collected.

If we get it right, we might get a reward. If we get it wrong, we will receive a note on the bin telling us what we have done wrong. I have a simpler suggestion. Why not ask householders to sort their waste into ‘wet waste’ (ie tea bags, banana skins) and ‘other waste’, regardless of recyclability. Then the ‘bin spies’ could be better employed at the depot to sort the waste accurately and professionally.

This would make life much easier for people who: l Are not tall enough to use a wheelie bin l Are not strong enough to move a wheelie bin, full or empty l Have no time to consult a list every time they need to throw something away l Are sick and tired of being treated like naughty five-year-olds.
