HEAVY rock artists and tribute bands will raise funds for injured servicemen at a village music festival.

Help for Heroes is this year’s chosen charity for the Chalgrove Live Music Festival, which is being staged at Langley Field Farm, next month.

Organisers say this year’s line-up is the best ever, with John Coghlan’s Quo, Snakebite, Deft Leppard, and Bon Giovi among the acts bringing back memories of the monsters of rock.

And adding a dash of Forces glamour will be 706 Union Avenue, a band from RAF Benson, near Wallingford.

The festival, now in its 22nd year, was first held in a pub garden but now gets 1,000 visitors a day and fills a 20-acre field.

Mum-of-four Kelle Nixey is hoping staff from RAF Benson will be among those attending the three-day festival, which starts on Friday, August 6. The 28-year-old, who has helped to organise the festival for the past 11 years, said: “There are so many military bases in Oxfordshire that we wanted to raise some funds for Help for Heroes, to show our support.

“I am sure 706 Union Avenue will get a special big cheer from RAF Benson staff when they play on the Saturday night.

“Last year was our most successful yet but the line-up this time is even better so we are really looking forward to it.

“John Coghlan was the original drummer in Status Quo and we are delighted that he has agreed to play with his band.”

The festival offers camping, stalls and a funfair.

Weekend tickets cost £20 with an additional cost of £5 per tent. For details visit clmfestival.com
