Having just driven from Eynsham to Kennington for the first time since the lights were installed on the Botley Interchange, let me give you an idea of what went on.

Coming down the A420 I had to stop because the light was red for an imaginary car coming from my right. Then I had to stop again for an imaginary car coming from my left from the A34.

When I was allowed to go, I had to stop yet again for an imaginary car coming up from Botley. Only then was I allowed to continue.

They call this progress. And there was me thinking that when a traffic light is red it is for my benefit. All it does is stop everything from flowing – a bit like the Hinksey Hill Roundabout.

It’s a result of yet more transport committee meddling.
