THE mother of an alcoholic violently beaten by a Didcot woman last night appealed to his attacker to hand herself into police.

Adelle McColl, pictured, of Hamble Road, Didcot, failed to appear at Oxford Crown Court for sentencing after being found guilty of grievous bodily harm (GBH) with intent on Wednesday, June 9.

The 40-year-old was charged with assault and GBH on July 22 last year after she attacked Paul Bishop at his home in Northbourne Court, Didcot, on March 13 last year.

However, she failed to turn up for her trial on Monday, June 7, and jurors found her guilty in her absence of GBH and GBH with intent.

Mr Bishop died from the effects of his long-term alcohol problem the day before his 50th birthday two months later.

Last night, Mr Bishop’s mother Kay Goodenough said she wanted McColl locked up so her family could move on with their lives.

In a message to McColl, the 72-year-old former care worker, of Wessex Road, Didcot, said: “Please give yourself up for Paul’s sake. We want recompense for Paul.”

She added: “She beat him up with a vodka bottle, she smashed his face and head up. I want her locked up before she hits another person.

“The injuries she inflicted on my son were horrendous.

“He couldn’t see out of his eye for about four weeks and his face was black and blue all over.

“All his throat was cut from the bottle. His head had to be glued because they couldn’t stitch it.

Mother-of-four Mrs Goodenough said her son’s long-term alcohol addiction spiralled further downwards after the attack as he became a recluse.

She said: “From March to May, he wouldn’t go out.

“He was scared and he drank a lot more and his friends used to bring him drink. He didn’t do anything else but drink. He wouldn’t even come and see me.”

He son died from pneumonia, alcoholism and liver failure on May 16 last year. He had been unemployed for about two years.

Pc Dave Edwards said: “We know that Adelle uses aliases and is commonly known as Julie Dance. She has ties to Didcot and the Melksham area of Wiltshire.

“She is very distinctive and can be described as white, 5ft 4in, slim build, with short bleached-blonde hair, blue tattooed or pencilled eye brows, and a scar on the left side of her face.”
