THE Friends of Oxpens Meadow welcome city council leader Bob Price’s commitment to protecting Oxford’s green lungs but we are concerned that the council might now be looking to build yet more houses at Oxpens.

If this is the case, the protection of Oxpens Meadow as a green lung takes on an even greater urgency.

The Friends, with the support of CPRE Oxford, are campaigning to have the meadow registered as a Town Green, to protect it in perpetuity.

The council has made a counter-proposal to make the Meadow a Community Land Trust. Such trusts are very often land slated for social housing.

We would like to invite readers to enjoy this small green oasis on Sunday, June 27, when we will be taking part in the Oxford Green Spaces Sponsored Circular Walk linking the Trap Grounds, Warneford Meadow and Oxpens Meadow. There will be information stalls and children’s activities from 10am to 4pm.

For more information, see oxpensmeadow.org/index.html and for details of the sponsored walk see cpreoxon.org.uk Lynn Erler, Friends of Oxpens Meadow, Oxford
