I really wonder if some Oxford United fans actually realise what manager Chris Wilder has achieved with the team’s excellent final game of the season, played at Wembley?

To think just a few weeks ago people were questioning his ability and position as manager is quite astonishing.

The fact United were top of the league with games in hand, then we had what could be fairly described as the mother of all wobbles, followed by winning promotion in the national stadium, is nothing short of a miracle.

I would personally like to thank Chris, all the staff and players for a tremendous, albeit emotional day out on Sunday.

I waited 30 years for a day like this. My kids, aged 17 and 11, have already had that privilege on Sunday and I’m finding words hard to explain just how I feel.

You would have to have a heart of stone not to empathise with Adam Chapman with all he has been through recently. I have no shame admitting I was reduced to a snivelling wreck watching the game replayed on TV, the Chappers’ interview being the last straw!

Chris Wilder is without doubt one of the best managers outside the Premiership.

Kelvin Thomas must take the credit for appointing a guy I admit I had never heard of – how that has changed.

I’ve lost count of the number of times Wilder works his magic at the interval and I include Sunday’s victory, his substitutions just devastating as Rhys Day cleared, Sam Deering eventually passed to Alfie Potter to clinch our rightful place in League Two.

I could mention all the players and backroom staff but they all know the super job they, collectively, have achieved.

Coming home on our coach we heard England had defeated the Australians in the Twenty-20 cricket world cup final.

Can things get any better? Well done to all involved.

Roll on the 2010-11 season!
