I write as a disgruntled Sandhills householder, who spends up to one-and-a-half hours each day negotiating the traffic chaos between the Green Road roundabout at Headington and Wheatley.

I recently observed, while patiently waiting in the queue, that while no traffic had built up on the Oxford side of the Sandhills junction, the traffic was piled up back past Wheatley on the London side.

The traffic controllers, when I confronted them, were oblivious to this fact.

They were more concerned about the possibility of congestion on the roundabout.

Why did they not complete the alterations to the roundabout first to alleviate the stress?

Why did they not first install cameras to relay the situation to the control cabin on each approach?

Each day, thousands of hours are wasted by travellers caught in the queues. My children are missing valuable schooling at exam time, due to the buses.

Staff are late at offices and travellers late at airports and stations.

Several years ago, John Prescott quashed plans to build a relief road between Forest Hill and North Oxford, a much better long-term solution.

I suggest that with the considerable spare time he obviously has on his hands, he be made to queue in one or the other of his two Jags to contemplate another very bad decision.
