Sir, I wish to publicly thank The City of Oxford Orchestra for their initiative of bringing professional music-making to care homes for the elderly in Oxfordshire and in particular for the music sessions they have brought to Rosebank Care Home in Bampton.
Andrew Knights, oboists and Lindsay Sandison, orchestra director, have brought so much enjoyment to our residents. Andrew plays the oboe, cor anglais, saxophone, and he also sings, accompanied by an expertly prepared backing track. The residents are encouraged to sing along and play a large array of percussion instruments. The results are remarkable. Even the most withdrawn of the audience have their minds opened and they participate with enthusiasm. The quality of social life is added to by reminiscence of the event and eager anticipation of the next. The City of Oxford Orchestra have contributed significantly to our activities programme and we would urge them and their benefactors to keep up the good work.
Penny Haslam, Rosebank Care Home, Bampton
