Charlton Athletic yesterday claimed golf's Premiership title at The Oxfordshire, but unlike in the real world Chelsea only finished in mid-table.

Led by former striker and now BBC pundit Mark Bright, Charlton won the inaugural London Golf Show Premiership Masters in aid of children's charity Sparks.

The event saw each Premiership club represented by a former player or manager playing alongside three fans.

Bright's Charlton side finished on 87 stableford points with teammates Graeme Dawson, Ian Hicks and Pete Simm all contributing.

Next up on 83 were Bruce Grobbelaar's Liverpool, featuring Alasdair Gemmell, Tim Rantle and Mark Stewart.

David Armstrong's Middlesbrough, featuring Paul Harris, Neil Hodgson and John Pratt, were third on 81.

Organiser Pete Richardson said: "The inaugural London Golf Show Premiership Masters will have raised several thousand pounds for Sparks, one of the most deserving charities in Britain.

"It has been a tremendous event on a fantastic day.

"We have been delighted by the support of the footballing community and it was great to see legends like Pat Jennings and John Giles here today."

Other footballing celebrities present included former Arsenal full-back Lee Dixon and ex Coventry manager Jimmy Hill, who is Sparks' life president.
