South League: City of Oxford crashed to their heaviest defeat of the season as Oxfordshire rivals Banbury battered them 11-0 in the Middlesex, Berks, Bucks & Oxon division.

Banbury are riding high in second place, and City, second from bottom in the table with just eight points, were no match for them.

The weakened City side, missing key players, also lost Matt Beynon injured during the game.

Simon Boardman bagged five goals for Banbury and Craig Irvine also helped himself to a hat-trick, with the others coming from Richard Foreman (2) and skipper Matthew Bull.

Rover Oxford secured a crucial 4-2 victory away at High Wycombe in the same division, thanks mainly to another excellent first-half display.

Rover started well, dominating possession and pinning Wycombe back in their own half, and for once they translated this dominance into goals.

A penalty-corner drag-flick by Daniel Smyth, followed by an individual effort from the same player, saw Rover race into a two-goal lead, before Wycombe started to carve out one or two chances themselves.

The Rover defence stood firm and a breakaway just before half-time resulted in the third goal through Greg Horne.

However, the second half was a very different story. Wycombe were camped inside the Rover half and were awarded a string of penalty corners, one of which they converted to reduce the arrears.

This lifted the Wycombe confidence further and a nervous Rover defence then held out for the next 15 minutes through a combination of poor Wycombe finishing and some desperate defending.

Rover scored next with a rare break resulting in a penalty corner that Smyth converted to complete his hat-trick.

Wallingford continued where they left off the previous week with a comfortable 2-0 win over Leighton Buzzard in Division 1.

Wallingford looked in control from the start and enjoyed most of the possession. They were unlucky not to take the lead ten minutes in when Rich Pool's thunderbolt of a shot went across the goal and struck the far post.

Wallingford broke through from a short corner that Nick Golding forced over the line from Tim Atkins's original shot.

Atkins then cut through the Leighton Buzzard defence to provide Golding with an easy chance for his second goal.

In the second half, Buzzard had a couple of short corners which keeper Sean Millard kept out.

Bicester beat Gerrards Cross 2-1 in Division 1, but Abingdon's game at OMT in the same section was postponed.

In Division 2, Witney bounced back from last week's 3-2 defeat at Phoenix with a 3-0 win at bottom club Tring, the goals coming from Teacher, Bates and Safa.

Other scores: Rover Oxford 2nd 3 (J Sordillo 2, T Langdon), West Hampstead 2nd 1; City 2nd 2 (C Brown 2), Banbury 2nd 2; Witney 2nd 2, West Hampstead 2nd 4; City 3rd 6 (K Ahmed 2, S Honour, M Hooper, D Cowley, S Hudson), Staines 3rd 1; Windsor 3rd 5, Witney 3rd 0.
