It is not often I defend Oxford City Council, but one of its most successful ventures is the park-and-ride system -- probably one of the best in the country.
Now we are told that security may be cut at some of the sites (Oxford Mail, November 26).
Oxfordshire County Council has decreed that parking in Oxford will be free at night and on Sundays. The result? A potential drop in users of park-and-ride.
Can this be a bit of political scoring where the Conservative county council spoils a Labour/Lib Dem city council rare success? Whatever, again it is the shoppers, voters and workers in Oxford who are being walked over. Is it time to change the system and put someone with a decent business sense in control of the public budget?
