South League: Rover Oxford finished the first half of their 2005-6 Division 1 campaign with a 3-1 win at home against Eastcote.

For the second time in two weeks, Rover took an early lead with Ruth Tuthill deflecting home a free hit from just outside the circle driven in by Caro Brebner.

Vicky Mankelow went close to extending the lead with a close-rage shot that was well saved.

Despite the pressure Eastcote held firm until the 24th minute when Suzanne Williams's clean strike from a short corner slammed into the backboard.

Against the run of play, Eastcote pulled a goal back two minutes later, again from a short corner.

In the second half, chances fell to Mankelow and Tuthill that were well saved.

Rover extended their lead with seven minutes to go after a sweeping right-side attack was finished by Tuthill from a narrow angle.

Despite a late flurry from the visitors, Rover held on for a deserved victory, and they go into the Christmas break in second spot and still with a chance to regain their place in the National League.

Oxford Hawks drew 4-4 away to Hampstead & Westminster in their top-of-the-table Division 2 clash.

An early goal from Zoe Salter gave Hawks the lead, but Hampstead responded by scoring on the break.

Hawks regained the lead when Emma Batten lifted the ball into the goalmouth, where Mandy Borrett tapped in.

Hampstead & Westminster equalised again from open play and Hawks returned the favour once more with another goal from Salter.

Sue Clark slotted away a penalty flick to put Hawks 4-3 up. But Hampstead would not give up, and they converted a short corner to equalise right at the death.

Also in Division 2, West Witney chalked up a 2-0 victory over Barnes, while in Division 3A Oxford University walloped bottom club Windsor 8-0.

WEST Witney won their second-round match in the Girls U18 Knockout Cup with a 3-1 win on flicks over West Wilts after a 2-2 draw.

First-half goals from Sandy Anderson and Becky Dean gave Witney a 2-0 half-time lead but Wilts hit back.

In the shoot-out, Anderson, Dean and Nic Ryder converted their flicks, and with Alice Williams in good form in goal, Witney earned their place in the third round against Clifton, in Bristol, on December 11.
