Police officers from Bicester have received awards from Chief Constable Peter Neyroud.

Insp Adrian Wappner, Sgt Paul Allan, Pc Richard Ell, acting Sgt Philip Hampton, Pc Andrew Mott, Philip Balderstone of Bicester Roads Policing and Pc Geoffrey Chambers, who has now retired, were commended for their humanity, determination, skill and professionalism following the hit-and-run incident which led to the death of Daniel Jones, 16.

A citation read out in the ceremony said: "The care shown to the victim by attempting to save his life and coordinate the scene, and the support given to his family throughout the investigation and court case was exemplary."

During the ceremony, held at Drayton Golf Club, Mr Neyroud said: "All of the people at this ceremony have demonstrated immense bravery, skill and a commitment to helping other people.

"The officers and police staff that have received an award should be as proud of themselves as I am of them, for they have shown us all that their work has been in the highest traditions of the police service."

A Chief Constable's Commendation is one of the highest honours the force can bestow.
