Oxford University 5, Leinster A 36: There was little to shout about as Oxford University's final Varsity Match warm-up ended in a comprehensive home defeat.

Just two days before naming his Twickenham team, this drab showing gave director of rugby Steve Hill no last-minute selection headaches.

Leinster, who were captained by Lions back row Eric Miller, showed their class by running in four tries in 20 second-half minutes.

But after a decent opening, the Dark Blues fell flat.

Fly half Jon Fennell scraped my man-of-the-match award with a decent kicking display, but Oxford never had a platform in the final third.

They began well enough with several Fennell kicks turning the Leinster defence.

Full back George Millar was everywhere in the Leinster attack and unsurprisingly opened the scoring on 19 minutes after centre Eoghan Hickey had been held up.

His midfield partner David McAllister converted from the touchline, but Oxford immediately hit back.

Leinster couldn't deal with a home lineout and the ensuing maul gave flanker Dan Palm plenty of room to dive over on the right wing.

This was as good as it got for Oxford, who were 12-5 down at the break after Hickey touched down McAllister's clever chip kick.

Once Millar added his second try of the afternoon with a simple left-wing finish on 52 minutes, Leinster were dominant.

McAllister converted this and try No 6 for winger Brendan Burke, but was off the mark with scores four and five.

Breffni O'Donnell had only been on the field for seven minutes when he cantered over after Leinster had created a huge overlap.

The onslaught continued with flanker Niall Ronan surging clear to feed the supporting Hickey for his second try.

A Fennell grubber kick almost eluded the Leinster defence, before Jonan Boto finally found space to run.

But this was a disappointing afternoon and some better handling would have seen Leinster inflict Oxford's biggest defeat of the campaign.
