Was there a special offer on traffic lights lately that I missed?
That's the only conclusion that I can come to with the new installation of lights at the Tesco roundabout at Cowley, Oxford.
There are now nine sets of lights on that roundabout and they are causing more traffic chaos than ever before.
Traffic is queued back in every direction now and the roundabout gets blocked because of this and the timing of the lights.
As you approach the roundabout from Blackbird Leys and get past the first set of lights that are green, 10 metres later you hit another set of lights that are on red, causing traffic behind to stop on a green light. This happens all the way around the roundabout.
When these lights were being installed and none was in operation, traffic flowed far better than it had before.
Doesn't this tell you something about the planners who designed this? They are so out of touch with so-called traffic congestion sites that they seem to think they have to control how we drive all the time.
Roundabouts were not designed to have traffic lights. Without the lights, they work perfectly.
The problem with this junction was that it was badly planned in the first place, and they are just making a bad job worse. Get rid of the lights now.
