Tadmarton Heath completed a memorable season in style by claiming the Shaw & Co Oxfordshire Foursomes Knockout Trophy.

Having already secured promotion to Section 1 in the league, their 3-0 victory over Burford at Mentmore on Sunday ensured they finished the campaign unbeaten.

But defeat capped a miserable year for Burford, who beat Tadmarton 2-1 in the 2004 final at Frilford Heath.

They were relegated from Section 1 after finishing two points behind neighbours Chipping Norton.

Tadmarton were always in control of the final once James Burton and Owen King had edged out Simon Hopkins and John Wilks by two holes in match one.

Team captain Spencer Hallam and Nigel Jennings then sealed victory with a 3 & 1 defeat of Tom Potter and Ian Liddle.

Burford were denied any consolation when Andrew Mason and Ian Manning thrashed Tom Green and Adam Salter 5 & 4.

Hallam said: "Tadmarton came out on top thanks to strong performances from all three pairs.

"The match was played in a great spirit, with the Mentmore Rosebery Course being presented in excellent condition.

"It has been a fantastic season. We won 13 and only drew one match all year."

And it is not just the adults who have been excelling at Tadmarton.

Fifteen-year-old junior member Katherine O'Connor, daughter of club captain Arthur, reached the Daily Telegraph Junior Championship final in Dubai.

Despite being the least experienced player in the field, her eighth place finish showed potential.

She was also in the UK junior team, who comfortably beat their United Arab Emirates rivals.

O'Connor described the highlight of her trip as playing with boys' champion Oliver Fisher in a nine-hole par-three competition.

"It was a fantastic experience to play with Ollie, she said, "I hit the greens and he knocked in the putts.

"We won the competition with a score of six under par".
