Two teenagers threw a kitten at a moving car in Bicester and filmed it on their mobile phones.

Neil Goward was stunned -- first as the black and white kitten hit the windscreen and then when he spotted the pair holding up their mobiles to capture it all.

The 'happy-slapping' incident -- when assaults are recorded on mobile phones -- is believed to be the first involving an animal in Oxfordshire.

Mr Goward was driving along Bucknell Road just before midnight on Thursday (November 3).

He said: "As I hit it they jumped up in the air and said 'wahey'. They knew I was coming. It is disgusting." He later discovered the kitten almost certainly belonged to a friend, who had reported Chip, his seven-month-old tabby, missing earlier the same day.

Chip's owner, who did not want to be named, said: "They have got no morals. If they can kill an animal, imagine what they will do in a few years' time."

He said he could not bring himself to tell his two-year-old son.

"My little boy is really upset about it. He keeps asking where Chip is and I've had to tell him he has gone away," he added.

RSPCA spokesman Sophie Wilkinson said: "Any sort of cruelty is deplorable. If it is on the increase then that is very disturbing."

She urged people to report incidents to the RSPCA on 08705 555999.
